An ideal gift for Christmas or any celebration. We do a variety
of gift vouchers so that you can choose one to suit the intended recipient.
This popular short break starts on Friday evening with a meal
and an informal chat, and runs through to Sunday tea-time.It gives the absolute beginner a
chance to see what driving is all about, and even if you have never touched a pony before
you will be driving a single and maybe a pair ( always with an instructor with you) by
Sunday tea-time. The more experienced driver can enjoy 2 days of singles, pairs, tandem or
team as they wish, including pic-nic drives or visits to a pub in the heart of Dartmoor. Holidays can be arranged for 2 to 5 days, starting on
any day of the week. Again, complete beginners are as welcome as experienced drivers. The
content of the weeks driving is always arranged to suit the visitor, and could
include any aspect of driving, including training young ponies, and working horses on the
land, pub drives and pic-nics. Some time may also be spent discussing different types of
vehicles, their construction, harness, and all methods of rein handling, using a
rein-machine.
Singles
Many people coming to Dartmoor would like time to see some of our many local attractions as well as do some driving; so we have arranged a short break that will give you time for both. The mornings are spent driving – at which ever level you choose – and the afternoons are free for you to explore. We will send you a very comprehensive tourist map and guide offering a very wide range of attractions, and of course, there are miles of walks on Dartmoor, starting right from our gate. Accommodation can also be arranged, either with or without an evening meal. For those who would like to see Dartmoor from a horse and
carriage, we can offer drives of approx 2 1/2hrs. The route will take you through
some really spectacular scenery on Dartmoor along quiet lanes and tracks that are seldom
found by visitors to the area. John will be able to enthral you with his knowledge of
Dartmoor life, both past and present, as you savour the atmosphere at the gentle pace of
the horses.
Trips for up to 4 people. Approx two and a half hours £90.00.
For those who already have some driving experience, we can offer
you the opportunity to drive a more advanced combination in some of the best driving
country around. John Arden has experience of National F.E.I. competitive driving, both
with a single horse (where he won the Novice Single Championship) and also with a pony
team, so he can offer real advice to those interested in this field. Many of our driving
routes include natural hazards, such as water splashes, wooded areas and steep gradients,
to give added experience and excitement to your driving. But at whatever level you choose
we can offer variety and interest, from cone driving to cross-country, or even peaceful
drives out across the Moor.
Although we can nolonger take horses and ponies to train to harness, John can offer you advice from his many years of experience to help you get going at home. Nothing could be more romantic than a horse drawn wedding. Dartmoor Driving can provide a turnout of two grey horses and a modern landau, to make your day even more magical.
John has spent many years working with horses, and has a wealth of stories and amusing anecdotes that he can share with an audience. Please contact us for more details.
